Scholarships allow students to pursue their dreams
When students don’t have the money to begin or continue their college education, what can they do? One way to pursue their dream is receiving a scholarship. The cost of a quality education continues to grow. Now, more than ever, scholarships are needed to recruit and retain students.
Denitra Dennis, a graduate student and president of the Student Government Association, was the recipient of the Dr. Karen E. James Marketing Promotional Strategy Scholarship last spring. “The monetary award helped with my educational expenses,” Dennis commented, “ but equally important was the honor of being recognized by the university faculty.”
The LSUS Foundation is excited to announce these scholarships established in the past six months which will help students:
• Alpha Omega Laser, Inc. Computer Sciences Scholarship, established by Sam, Lynn, and Rachel Sayad.
• Marcia Calhoun Endowed Scholarship, established by Marcia Calhoun (BGS ‘00).
• Margery Norton Endowed Scholarship at LSUS, established by the Eloise, Enoch and Margery Norton Foundation.
Scholarships were established with endowments from Foundation Unrestricted Funds honoring all recipients of the annual LSUS Pilots of the Year award:
• Vincent and Carol Ann Marsala Pilot Scholarship
• James and Margaret (BA ‘77) Elrod Pilot Scholarship
• Norman and Peggy (Honorary Ph.D., AGS ‘84) Kinsey Pilot Scholarship
• Joe and Abby Averett Pilot Scholarship
• Virginia Shehee Pilot Scholarship
• George A. Khoury Jr. Pilot Scholarship
• Leonard and Mary Anne Selber Pilot Scholarship
• Fred and Sybil Patten Pilot Scholarship
Scholarships have also been established thanks to the Dr. Lacy and Edie Williams Circle of Excellence Plaza. George A. Khoury Jr., John (BS ‘76) and Cheryl Good, and Reed (BA ‘00) and Sofia Dickens have purchased Founding Gateway Pavers in the plaza. Their $15,000 donations each come with an endowed scholarship. Khoury has decided to put his funds into his already established George A. Khoury Jr. Endowed Scholarship in an effort to have it soon reach the $200,000 mark.
