Archives and Special Collections
sets historical essay competition
LSUS Archives and Special Collections seeks entries in its second annual historical essay competition.
The essay competition is funded by a generous endowment from Shreveport architect and preservationist, William B. Wiener Jr. LSUS Archives and Special Collections sponsors two awards each year for outstanding essays on historical topics related to northwest Louisiana and the Ark-La-Tex region.
This year, the two awards will be $1,000 and $450, respectively. The purpose of the competition is to encourage historical research and scholarship by LSUS students, to foster interest in the history and culture of the Ark-La-Tex area, and to promote the use of Archives and Special Collections at LSUS. Both awards are given for outstanding research and writing by LSUS students on a topic related to local or regional history. The essays are permanently retained in the Archives.
Interested LSUS students with at least three credit hours of history or who are enrolled in a history course in the fall or spring semesters should contact the Archives for an application.
Essays are due in the Archives office by the Monday after spring break next year.
