Lecturing on Lincoln
Dr.
John F. Marszalek (left), W. L. Giles distinguished
professor emeritus of history at Mississippi State
University, chats with Dr. Gary Joiner, an LSUS
assistant professor of history, before delivering
the annual Frank and Virginia Williams Lincoln
Lecture in early April. Marszalek’s presentation, “1862:
A Year of Decision for Mr. Lincoln and General
Halleck,” was based partly on his research
for his 2004 book, Commander of all Lincoln Armies:
A Life of General Henry W. Halleck. His presentation
was the 12th in the annual Lincoln Lecture series,
according to Dr. William D. Pederson, LSUS professor
of political science, director of the LSUS International
Lincoln Center for American Studies and holder
of the LSUS American Studies Endowed Chair.
