Annual golf tournament a sellout

By early March, the 8th Annual LSUS Alumni Association Hibernia Pilots Golf Classic was already sold out. However, Board Golf Committee Chairmen Brian Pasquier, Brian Wooten and David Harmon are always happy to provide more information, so call Alumni Director Dianne Howell at 318-797-5190 if you are interested in sponsoring a team.

Scheduled for May 5 at Olde Oaks Golf Club, the tournament is a fundraiser for athletic and academic scholarships and other Alumni Association programs that benefit LSUS. The player-friendly course is PGA superstar Hal Sutton’s first signature design course and is part of the Louisiana Audubon Golf Trail. Olde Oaks features three challenging nines, Meadow, Oak and Cypress.

The LSUS Hibernia Pilots Golf Classic has generated more than $80,000 in the past six years, with seventy percent of that amount raised since 2003. Special thanks go to Hibernia National Bank and Keith Bergeron, regional chairman Northwest Louisiana, for their continued support as signature sponsor of the tournament. Thanks also go to new Platinum Sponsor Taylor Gas Liquids.

Popular features include the Campus Federal Putting Contest, six hole-in-one contests sponsored by Landers Dodge and Courtesy Golf Cars, the “Chancellor’s Challenge” and the Silent Auction. New this year is a surprise contest with a cash prize of $1,500.

Auction items will include LSU President’s Box Football Tickets donated by LSU System President Dr. William L. Jenkins, signed sports memorabilia, jewelry, season tickets and dinner packages.

Celebrity Drivers, including LSUS Coaches Chad McDowell and Jed Jones, Robby McWilliams and Eddy Lyons (tentative), will be on hand to help teams reach the green – for a small fee. Players will also enjoy box lunches sponsored by McAlister’s Deli, supper provided by Texas Roadhouse, and beverages courtesy of Coca Cola, Eagle Distributing and Music Mountain Water. Sign and printing sponsors are Graphic Industries, Signs At Work and Insty-Prints.
