LEADERSHIP FOR COMMUNITY SUPPORT

MESSAGE FROM LSUS FOUNDATION PRESIDENT MIKE WOODS
......................................................................................................

A university distinguishes itself from its peers through a dedicated faculty, outstanding students and alumni, a committed staff, and community support. With common goals and objectives, these groups form a partnership to create a learning environment rich in tradition and scholarly pursuits.

The LSUS Foundation exists to stimulate this partnership by generating private support for the benefi t of LSUS. Through these efforts, the Foundation reaches thousands of graduates, parents and friends of the campus.

For the past two years as Foundation President I have been fortunate to have the support of a dedicated Board of Directors whose common goal is to ensure the continued success of our campus. Working together with the University, we have made signifi cant strides in increasing private support for LSUS. For the fi rst time in its history, the Foundation now manages more than $9 million in funds for the benefi t of the educational, cultural and social service programs supported by the University.

Unfortunately, we now face an unprecedented time in our state’s history. The catastrophic events caused by hurricanes Katrina and Rita have resulted in immediate and signifi cant reductions in funding for all public higher education institutions across Louisiana. It is my belief that the LSUS Foundation is now more important than ever, because it is only through private support that these shortfalls can be overcome.

You can help meet this challenge by supporting the“ Imagine the Possibilities” annual campaign. If you have already made an annual gift, I encourage you to make an additional contribution. If you have not provided support for the Foundation’s efforts on behalf of the campus, I encourage you to do so today by going to www.lsus.edu/foundation/givenow.asp.

Your support can and will make a difference. Whatever your interest, from academics to athletics, the Foundation will help you place your gift where it will have a signifi cant impact.

PROVIDING ACCESS FOR HIGHER EDUCATION
.........................................................................

Established in 1983, the LSUS Foundation is the central fundraising arm of the University. It is an institutionally related public foundation which invests and manages private assets given to the University. The Foundation is a 501(c)(3) nonprofi t and tax exempt organization, and all contributions are deductible to the full extent of the law.

The Foundation has the responsibility to provide stewardship for donors through recognition programs and publications. The Foundation manages accounts for various University programs, including scholarships, professorships, chairs, faculty development funds, athletics, alumni funds, fundraising and development operations and other Foundation-related programs. These privately held funds are distributed proportionately to the University to fund programs across the campus. The Foundation produces several publications, including this annual report and other brochures on fundraising, development and endowment management. It interacts with virtually every department in the University and coordinates several special events on behalf of donors, faculty and students on a Universitywide scale.

The LSUS Foundation provides support for the campus by extending the value of each donation it receives to the fullest extent. Through the leadership of its Board of Directors and the generosity of its donors, the Foundation fuels success for the University to provide superior higher education for Northwest Louisiana and the Ark-La-Tex.

LSUS is host each year to a number of community events, many of them fundraisers to support the organizations conducting the functions. Bicyclists leave the LSUS campus to take one of several routes in the annual Goodwill Industries of North Louisiana’s Bicycle Tour. Hundreds participated in the tour, which featured routes of 12.5 miles to 100 miles.
