Uplifting Feat

Rose Pettitte, an eighth grader at Caddo Middle Magnet School who has been training with Dr. Kyle Pierce for three years at the LSUS USA Weightlifting Development Center, holds a lift of 50kg in the Women’s 48kg division of the USA Weightlifting American Open Championships held in the University Center Theater in early December. Pierce said Pettiette was among the youngest and at 100 lbs. was the smallest competitor in the meet. She and her brother David, a sixth grader at Caddo Middle Magnet, were guest lifters at the Quebec Junior Championships in Canada Thanksgiving weekend. The Quebec junior weightlifting team comes to Shreveport each summer to train for two weeks with Pierce at the LSUS weightlifting complex. In mid-March, Pierce was named one of three finalists for the U.S. Olympic Committee’s “Doc” Counsilman Science Award.
