Woods assumes Foundation presidency

More than 60 LSUS Foundation members attended the Annual Meeting of the LSUS Foundation held in early October at the Shreveport Club.

The meeting was called to order by President James Elrod who thanked the membership for attending and supporting the Foundation. He expressed his pride in the accomplishments of the Foundation during his two years as president, which included adding one fully funded endowed chair and six professorships, and has pending for state matching funds one fully funded chair and three partially funded professorships.

He also pointed to Chancellor’s Circle membership gifts (unrestricted donations of $1,000) which have nearly tripled from $26,000 in 2001 to $75,000 in 2004 and the increase in Foundation membership which has almost doubled from 90 members to more than 170.

He noted the Foundation’s endowment value has increased from $5 million to more than $7 million. The Foundation has assisted in providing LSUS students with more than $300,000 in scholarships over the two-year period.

He concluded his remarks by thanking the membership for their dedication to working for the future of LSUS through the Foundation. He noted that by working together, a new legacy of community support and growth had been established for the new Foundation president to build upon.

The membership then voted to elect Ed Bradley, Dr. Lacy Williams, Brian Bond and Harold Turner as new members of the Board of Directors for 2004-05. The membership also elected as new officers Michael Woods, president, Carolyn Nelson, vice president, and Robert FitzGerald, secretary/ treasurer.

Elrod asked Woods to conduct the remainder of the meeting. Woods thanked him for his service as president and stated his desire to continue the momentum of the Foundation in the past two years and focus on several additional specific issues.

“I am pleased that so many Foundation members attended the meeting,” said Glenda Erwin, interim vice chancellor for university development. “I want to thank Jim Elrod for his enthusiastic leadership over the past two years and express how excited I am about working with new President Michael Woods and the new board members. We owe so much to the Foundation membership for their continued support, and their important leadership role in the future of our community and LSUS.”
