Experience, new blood expected
to make Lady Pilots competitive

With eight returning players and seven newcomers, the Lady Pilots expect to fare significantly better than their eight-win season last year. A junior, a sophomore and 11 freshmen improved dramatically throughout the season last year as they stunned No. 15-ranked Dillard University and the University of Mobile, which had beaten the Lady Pilots by 30 earlier in the season.

Jed Jones named coach
of women’s soccer team

LSUS has named former Centenary College coach Jed Jones as its head women’s soccer coach. Jones was the head men’s and women’s soccer coach at Centenary from 1997 to 2004, compiling a 77-45-7 record with the Ladies. At the end of the 2003 season, Jones’ career winning percentage ranked him 44th in NCAA Division I.

Scholarship endowments put students first

Gayle and Eric Gerdes wanted to do something different for Gayle’s mother, Elaine Parker, for Mother’s Day this year. They were interested in honoring her many years of service teaching kindergarten and first grade. After calling Glenda Erwin, interim vice chancellor for university development, they decided to establish an endowed scholarship in Parker’s honor.

Woods assumes Foundation presidency

More than 60 LSUS Foundation members attended the Annual Meeting of the LSUS Foundation held in early October at the Shreveport Club.
