A LIDAR (Light Distancing and Ranging)
image shows the LSUS campus (lower right) and
Willis Knighton Pierremont Hospital (lower left)
below the Red River Education & Research
Park (large blue and surrounding yellow areas)
and the Red River. Recently acquired airborne
LIDAR data is being used in the LSUS Red River
Watershed Management Institute’s Geospatial
Lab to develop accurate topographic maps and
3-D models for studying and visualizing river
flooding. LIDAR is also used for watershed drainage
and floodplain vegetation studies and development
of the Red River Education & Research Park.
