LSUS Chancellor Vince Marsala (center) accepts
a check representing a $10,000 contribution
to the university from Horseshoe Casino and
Hotel in Bossier City. The contribution will
make Horseshoe an Admiral Sponsor for the Fifth
Annual RiverBend Revue Sept. 9 at the casino’s
Riverdome. On hand for the presentation are
(from left) Larry Lapinski, Horseshoe general
manager; Jack Binion, Horseshoe owner; Marsala;
Helen Black, Horseshoe manager for corporate,

Khoury
has been an active supporter of LSUS for many years
and continues to take a personal interest in the students
he has helped enter and graduate from LSUS.
The community steering committee, chaired by Michael
Woods, met February 16 to begin plans for RiverBend
Revue 2004. The event will include a reception and seated
dinner followed by the “Revue,” which will
take a lighthearted look at Khoury’s life. Marilyn
Joiner will again write the musical script for the event
which will honor Khoury and his family as “The
Candy Man.”
A popular annual social event, RiverBend Revue continues
to sell out year after year. This fall, planners expect
more than 500 people to honor Khoury, and expect to
raise more than $100,000 to support scholarships and
other needs of the university.
The Revue was developed to recognize individuals who
have contributed significantly to the success of the
university by honoring them with the “Pilot of
the Year” award. Past honorees include Dr. Vincent
J. Marsala, Norman and Peggy Kinsey, James K. Elrod,
Joe and Abby Averett, and Virginia K. Shehee.
Glenda Erwin, associate vice chancellor for university
development, looks forward to another successful event.
“RiverBend Revue is a wonderful opportunity for
LSUS to say thank you to our donors and raise critically
needed funds to support LSUS,” she said. “I
am especially pleased to recognize and honor George
Khoury, a great friend to LSUS and others in our community.
His generosity has touched the lives of many students
on our campus. His many friends will be delighted to
see him receive the public recognition he so richly
deserves.”
