LSUS summer, fall graduates total 267

A total of 267 LSUS students graduated with a variety of degrees at commencement exercises Dec. 17 at CenturyTel Center. Of the total, 92 completed requirements for their degrees at the end of the summer 2003 term. The other 175 finished in the fall semester.

The commencement address was delivered by U.S. Army 1st Lt. Brandon R. Friedman, who earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in history from LSUS in 2000. Friedman was the recipient of the 2003 LSUS Distinguished Alumni Award in recognition of his meritorious service in Afghanistan and Iraq. For his service in combat, the Army awarded him two Bronze Star Medals.

Carmen M. McLean, a summer graduate, completed the requirements for a Bachelor of Science degree in the College of Education and Human Development with a perfect 4.0 grade-point average, graduating summa cum laude. Madiha Jamil, also a summa cum laude graduate, earned a Bachelor of Science degree in the College of Sciences. Students achieving a GPA of 3.9 to 4.0 are granted degrees summa cum laude.

Degrees were granted magna cum laude (3.7 to 3.89) to Leanne Rice Ashby, Amie Lynn Adkins, Amina Munir Badar, Allison Gayle Burns, August L. Hurtel IV, Mehrzad Khodavandi, Jennifer Kaye Lynn, Morgan Amber Martin, Courtney Prothro, Jane Aliese Seawright and Shanmuka Shivashankara. Receiving their degrees cum laude (3.5 to 3.69) were Elizabeth Paige Burns, Colleen Cookson, Michael Bassam Fashho, Jonathan Edward Fox, Amber Leigh Graves, James Patrick McElwee, Marion Christy Moore, Jennifer Hamby Newman, Jonathan R. Stewart and Kelli Lea Turnage.
