Listening & Note Taking

Listening & Note Taking

Do I prepare in advance for the lecture and use a specific form of note taking during lecture?
Do I capture main points and all supporting points?
Do I use streamlining techniques, such as abbreviations, symbols or short-hand?
Do I review ASAP after class and then frequently in preparation of an exam?

Lectures are the basis of learning in college and the importance of note taking is often underestimated by students. But it is SO important to the learning process. Notes help you pay attention, utilize active listening and make sense of the course by pulling together concepts. Notes also provide you with a guide for inquiry and review. Developing a system for yourself will enable you to adequately prepare for classes and exams.
