| The annual Abraham Lincoln Lecture and the triennial Presidential Conference series generate the highest profiles among the American Studies components. The conference series is the only one in the South, and it focuses international attention on both LSU in Shreveport and the Shreveport-Bossier area. These landmark programs have drawn scholars from the United States and abroad. It is the only presidential conference series that focuses on themes from America's greatest presidents and teaches our nation's heritage through the lives, times and legacies of the greatest leaders who shaped its history. Underwritten by funding from the LEH and the National Honor Society of Phi Kappa Phi, the offerings have received national attention through C-SPAN coverage. Numerous well-received books have been published as a result of the papers presented and two newsletters are outgrowths. An additional spin-off has been LEH Summer Teacher Institutes for secondary teachers, including the first in the nation on Abraham Lincoln and White House First Couples. |
