General Library Policies

Assembly Room (328)

Requests to reserve the Assembly Room should be directed to the Dean's Office, phone (318) 798-4131.

Cell Phones

Patrons are asked to switch cell phones to silent mode while in the library. If you wish to place or receive a call, please do so in one of the entryways or the stairwell.

Change

Change is available for $1, $5, and $10 bills at the circulation desk. No bills larger than $10 will be accepted. The library reserves the right to provide coins for only $1 at a time when demand for change is high.

Food and Drink

Eating and drinking are not permitted in the library. Please do not bring any food or drink into the library. Patrons who consume food or drink in the library will be asked to leave.

Personal Computers

  • Terminals on the first floor of the library are available with Internet access, Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint applications.
  • The Microforms and Media office houses a small lab with six terminals with Internet access, Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint applications.
  • Patrons are welcome to bring personal computers into the library. Due to configuration requirements for software and protocols, only university-owned equipment may be connected to the LSUS computer network. Therefore, network access is only available through library terminals.

Library Services

  • Library services will cease 15 minutes prior to closing at the Circulation Desk, the Reference Desk, the Microforms and Media Office, Archives and Special Collections, and the Noel Collection. Please note that the Noel Collection and the Archives and Special Collections hours differ from the main library hours. Click here for operating hours for the library and these collections.
  • During the Fall and Spring semesters, the Circulation Desk, the Reference Desk, and the Microforms and Media Office close at 5:00PM Sunday, and at 9:00PM Monday - Thursday. The library remains open until 9:00PM Sunday, and until Midnight Monday - Thursday, for patrons who wish to study or use the online databases or other library materials within the building.
  • During the Fall and Spring semesters, all patrons entering the library after 5:00 PM Sunday and after 9:00 PM Monday - Thursday must present a valid photo ID (LSUS ID, driver's license, state-issued ID, military ID, or other school ID) and sign in at the security desk in order to enter the library.

Study Rooms

Individual Study Rooms (Rooms 118-122 & 205-211)

  • These rooms are available on a "first come, first served" basis and are not reserved
  • The library is not responsible for personal items left in the study rooms
  • No food, drinks, or tobacco products will be allowed in study rooms
  • The library reserves the right to ask any person(s) to leave the room and/or the library

    Group Study Rooms (Rooms 115-116 & 226-227)

  • LSUS students have priority in the use of library study rooms.
  • These rooms are available on a reservation basis
  • Sign up for first floor study rooms (115-116) at the Reference Desk.
  • Sign up for second floor study rooms (226-227) at the Microforms and Media Desk. Students needing audiovisual equipment/materials have priority in the use of these group study rooms.
  • Group size shall consist of 2-6 persons
  • A designated person within each group shall assure that all library policies are followed
  • LSUS identification, driver's license, or other picture identification is required of the designated person
  • Signups may be done up to a week in advance for a maximum use of two consecutive hours. If more than two hours are needed, additional time will be provided at time of use if no other patrons are waiting
  • A reserved room will be held for 15 minutes after the scheduled time. The rooms will then be relinquished to others
  • Upon exiting the study room, users should make certain that the study room is clean and in order, as any damage or disarray will be attributed to the last group using the room
  • The designated person will sign out at the appropriate desk
  • The library is not responsible for personal items left in study rooms
  • No food, drinks, or tobacco products will be allowed in study rooms
  • The library reserves the right to ask any person(s) to leave the room and/or the library

Tobacco Use

Use of any tobacco products in the library is prohibited.

Telephones

A public phone is located in the west entrance area (near the circulation desk). All other phones throughout the library are for staff use only.
