LIMITS TO REQUESTS
A patron may have no more than 10 active requests at one time. Patrons who have a need for a larger number of requests should contact the Interlibrary Loan Coordinator to create a plan for submitting requests that is acceptable to both parties.
ACCEPTABLE USE
Interlibrary loan services shall be for the personal use of the requestor, for their LSUS research needs. Some examples of acceptable requests include, but are not limited to:
-
A student who requests materials to fulfill course assignments or long-term research projects.
-
Faculty who request materials for ongoing research or for classroom use, (provided other fair use guidelines are met).
-
Staff who request materials for research and development that will help them to achieve the university's goals and objectives.
Regardless of the requestor's relationship to LSUS, under no circumstances will interlibrary loan requests be accepted if the requestor intends to use said materials in the pursuit of some commercial enterprise. For example, a student may not submit interlibrary loan requests for materials that s/he will use in the course of employment outside of the university. In such cases, the requestor is advised to submit requests to a commercial document supplier, and to pay the appropriate copyright fees.
Interlibrary loan services are not intended to substitute for the purchase of textbooks or other course materials. Requests for loans of textbooks will not be accepted.
COPYRIGHT COMPLIANCE
Interlibrary loan requests must comply with copyright laws. Under U.S. Code Title 17, Copyright Restrictions, the library may refuse a copying order if it violates copyright law.
FEES
Occasionally the library is unable to obtain a request except from an institution that charges for loans. Payment for these fees is the responsibility of the requestor. Please indicate a total amount that you are willing to pay for your request in the max cost field.
Late fees and fees for damage or replacement of interlibrary loan materials will be assessed in accordance with the lending library's loan policy.
SPEED OF DELIVERY
Please allow a minimum of two weeks for interlibrary loan materials to be ordered, shipped, and processed.
INCORRECT / ILLEGIBLE REQUESTS
Requests will be reordered if photocopies received are illegible or if the material that is received from the lending library is not that which was requested by the patron.
