Do you have to see my ID?

  • Yes.  You must present your LSUS ID, your LSUS Alumni Association card, or your LALINC card. If you present an LSUS Alumni Association card or a LALINC card, you must also present a valid photo ID (Driver's License, State-issued ID, Military ID, or student ID from another institution).
  • You must visit the Office of Student Activities on the second floor of the University Center to have an LSUS ID made. Be sure to bring your fee bill to prove that you are currently registered. Call 797-5393 if you have questions about obtaining an LSUS ID.

How long can I keep my books?

  • Books are checked out to most patrons for 3 weeks.  LSUS undergraduate and graduate students must return all books at the end of the semester, even if hey have not had the books for the full 3-week loan period.
  • You may renew your books through the online catalog or by calling the Library Circulation Desk at 797-5225.
  • Click here for a more complete list of loan periods and privileges extended to each category of library patron.

What are the fines for overdues?

  • The library charges .20 per day per item, with a maximum overdue fine of $10 per item.
  • Long overdue books will be considered lost, and replacement fees of $58 per item, plus processing fees of $10, will be charged.
  • Replacement fees are based upon the latest year's information on the average cost of North American academic books (rounded up to the nearest dollar), from the latest edition of the Bowker Annual Library and Book Trade Almanac. As of August 2002 the average price is $58.

What happens if I lose a book, or a book is damaged while charged out to me?

  • A replacement fee of $58 will be charged, along with a processing fee of $10, for lost books.
  • Books damaged beyond repair will be subject to the same fees as lost books.  Fees for lesser damage will be assessed based upon the extent of the damage.

Where do I go to pay library fees?

  • All library fees must be paid to the Office of Accounting Services, in the Administration Building, between the hours of 8:00AM-4:30PM Monday through Friday.
  • LSUS students should note that all library fees must be paid in order to receive grades; to complete registration for future semesters; to graduate; or to request transcripts.

What is LALINC ?

  • LALINC is the Louisiana Academic Library Information Network Consortium.
  • LALINC offers a way for active students, faculty and staff of Louisiana colleges and universities to borrow materials from academic libraries other than their own.
  • If you are a currently enrolled LSUS student, or an active LSUS faculty or staff member, and you are in good standing with the library, you may go to the Library Circulation Desk and request a LALINC card.  You may then present your card at another Louisiana academic library and request borrowing privileges.
  • Please note that possession of a LALINC card does not guarantee borrowing privileges from all Louisiana academic libraries. Policies differ from library to library, and the lending library has the option to honor the LALINC card based upon the status (undergraduate, graduate, faculty or staff) of the cardholder. Click here for information as to which libraries honor LALINC cards, and to which members of the academic community.

I'm not affiliated with LSUS or any other Louisiana academic library, but would like to check out some books. What can I do?

  • Members of the community who wish to check out library books can join the LSUS Alumni Association, and we will extend borrowing privileges to you when you present your valid Alumni Association card, along with a valid photo ID, at the Library Circulation Desk.
