Roddy Spigener Scholarship
Purpose:
To financially aid a student interested in pursuing a law degree or a business degree
Award value:
$1000/year ($500 per semester -Fall and Spring)
Selection Criteria:
: Recipient must have a cumulative grade point average of 3.0. He or she must have a demonstrated interest in attending law school which should include taking or having taken the following courses: Poli 211 (Judicial Process), Poli 411 (Constitutional Law), and CJ (Criminal Law). If there is no qualified candidate based on the above criteria then a student in the College of Business will be chosen. The criteria for this student will be that he/she has a cumulative grade point average of 3.0
Restriction:
The donors request that the following statement be presented to the selected scholarship recipient for his/her signature as a sense of understanding regarding the purpose for which the scholarship was established. This scholarship was created as a lasting tribute in memory of Roderick W. “Roddy” Spigener, through contributions from caring and loving friends and family. Roddy exhibited an appreciation for the individuality and potential of those with whom he interacted both in his professional and personal lives. The individual receiving this scholarship will have occasion in his/her professional career to encounter individuals whose personal beliefs, lifestyle or ambitions are different from his/her own. The donors desire to select an individual whose personal and professional ethics lend themselves to assisting individuals on a fair and unbiased basis regardless of age, race, sex, religion, natural origin, sexual orientation, sexual preference, military status or any other criteria that does not consider the overall characteristics of the individual.
Retention Criteria:
The recipient will receive the scholarship for the Spring semester immediately following the Fall semester they were awarded the scholarship provided they maintain a 3.0 grade point average. (Exceptions to the retention criteria can be made by the person who established the scholarship.)
