Have you tried different fields of study, without
finding the right one for you?
Do you want to return to college after having been
away from school for some time?
Will you have better employment opportunities if you
complete a college degree?
Are you interested in so many things that you have
difficulty focusing on just one?
If you answer yes to any of the questions above, a
degree in General Studies from Louisiana State University
in Shreveport might be what you are looking to achieve.
Many individuals find choosing a major very difficult.
Students will often change their major at least twice
before making a definitive decision, but even then
there are those who simply cannot choose. General Studies
allows the student to choose from four areas of concentration,
not a specific major. This gives the individual the
flexibility to explore all options within a particular
field. Do you like Sociology, Psychology, or History?
It does not matter. The three subjects are all under
the Social Sciences Concentration area, and the student
is able to select classes from all three areas to complete
degree requirements. Do you like Biology, Chemistry,
or Physics? Once again, the choice is up to the student
as these three fall under the Natural Sciences Concentration
area. The student, along with an advisor, can design
a course of study that fits the needs and interests
of the individual.
If you are transferring a large number of hours to
the university, General Studies may be the route for
you to take. Along with completing 33 hours in a specific
area of concentration, there are 44 hours of electives
to complete. You, along with an advisor, review and
plan your electives to fit your needs. As long as your
electives fulfill the correct degree requirements,
the courses can be used toward your degree. Because
of this area of electives, the BGS degree can prepare
students for graduate school, as well as the job market.
There is a large population of individuals who attended
school years ago yet left before graduating to enter
into the workforce. A BGS degree may be what you need
for flexibility in class scheduling and more importantly,
better job opportunities.
