Dr. Shaw received her B.A. in English from Centenary College, her M.S. in English from Louisiana Tech University, and her Ph.D. in English from Texas A&M University. She became a member of the English Department at LSU-Shreveport in 1988.

Recognized by LSU-S students as one of the Top Twenty Faculty Teachers in 2001-2002, Dr. Shaw has taught a variety of graduate and undergraduate courses, primarily in American literature and composition. Her newest teaching interest is the literature in the Bible. Dr. Shaw has also taught grant-sponsored interdisciplinary courses, such as “The Literature and History of the Civil War and Reconstruction in Louisiana.”

During her tenure at LSU-S, Dr. Shaw’s research interests have ranged from satire and war literature, primarily regarding Stephen Crane’s canon, to various essays examining the narrative voice in literature, particularly as dialogism from a Bakhtinian perspective. Her publications include the book Flannery O’Connor: New Perspectives and numerous essays found in such juried journals as Studies in the Novel, Studies in Contemporary Satire, College Literature, The Flannery O’Connor Bulletin, and the Northwest Louisiana Historical Journal. Dr. Shaw has also presented papers and served on panels at such conferences as the American Literature Association Conference, the South Central Conference on Christianity and Literature, the South Central Modern Language Association, and the premier Crane conference, “Stephen Crane’s The Red Badge of Courage: 100 Years.” Based on her record, Dr. Shaw has received an award from LSU-S for outstanding performance in research, teaching, and service.
