Dr. Anderson received his Ph.D. in Language, Literacy, and Rhetoric from the University of Illinois at Chicago, and began working at LSUS in the fall of 1989. His published articles deal with a wide range of topics, illustrated by this selected list: the writing abilities of first graders; institutional forces on writing pedagogy; the use of literary theory in undergraduate literature courses; motivation in the college composition classroom; Dashiell Hammet's novel "Woman in the Dark." He also has several poems published, along with a short story and a novel chapter.

For 10 years he directed the LSUS National Writing Project, a grassroots effort to help improve the teaching of writing at the elementary, secondary, and college levels. In that capacity he edited a statewide collection of essays by Writing Project teachers called "Composing Students Composing: Best Practices from the Louisiana Writing Project." For the past couple of years, he has been teaching Advanced Composition. In January 1997 he was appointed Chair of the Department, an assignment he enjoyed, in great part because it gave him regular contact with students. In his role as Dean, he hopes to make the College of Liberal Arts a center for cultural activities that benefit the entire region.
