McCray graduated from LSU in Shreveport in August of 1996 earning a Bachelor of General Studies Degree with an emphasis in Humanities. In 1999 he earned a Masters of English degree from Louisiana Tech. After returning to Shreveport, he worked as a Financial Aid Counselor for a year until being offered an instructor position with the Department of English.

He is currently the director of the General Studies program, and is working on a second master's degree in Education. Work, school, and family keeps his days filled, but he enjoy the challenges that life gives him.
