James H. Lake received his B. A. and M. A. degrees in English from Tulane University and his Ph. D. from the University of Delaware. A member of the LSUS English Department since 1973, Lake has served as Director of the Joys of Learning Humanities Seminars for the Elderly, Director of the LSUS Honors Program, and Director of the Master of Arts in Liberal Arts program. He is a former board member of the Louisiana Endowment for the Humanities, where he served for a year as Vice Chair. He continues to serve on a local LEH advisory board and is currently on the Board of Directors of the Noel Foundation and the editorial board of Shakespeare and the Classroom.

He has published on Shakespeare and related topics in a variety of journals, including Shakespeare Quarterly, American Imago, Shakespeare and the Classroom, Upstart Crow, Shakepeare Bulletin, Shakespeare Newsletter, Literature/Film Quarterly, Explicator, and elsewhere. He is presently preparing a book on using Shakespeare and cinema in the classroom.

Lake's major field of interest is Shakespeare, Shakespeare and film, and interdisciplinary studies in early modern thought and culture. He teaches courses in the MLA program, in Shakespeare and related topics, and in the freshman and sophomore curriculum.
