Dr. Taylor received her B.A. in English Language and Literature from Durham University in England. She came to the USA in 1983 to study for the M.A. in English that she earned from Clark University in 1986. A PhD in English from the University of Connecticut followed this in 1991.

Dr. Taylor joined the English Department at LSU-Shreveport in 1990 as an Assistant Professor, becoming Associate Professor in 1996, and Professor in 2001. In 1994 she began assisting the MLA Program and was promoted to its Director in 1998.

While her doctoral training focused on medieval women’s spirituality and devotional texts, Dr. Taylor’s recent teaching interests include 19th and 20th century women’s fiction. She also teaches a graduate seminar on medieval culture, as well as undergraduate courses in the English department. She has kept up a sustained record of scholarly activity, with recent publications and conference presentations on writers such as Barbara Pym, Dorothy Sayers, and Joanna Trollope. Dr. Taylor has also been the recipient of several grants, including two recent projects with the Louisiana Endowment for the Humanities, one to explore women’s fiction with area teachers, and one to help family literacy in underprivileged areas of Shreveport.

Dr. Taylor is a native of London, England, and serves as an unofficial campus “translator” for fans of British novels and TV shows. Her students waste large amounts of time in class getting her to say “laboratory,” “data,” and “aluminium.”
