TERULIA
Though not an official LSUS organization, Tertulia
(roughly translated as “afternoon get-together”)
has become a great success. It is an informal Spanish
conversation group that includes beginning, intermediate,
and advanced Spanish students, faculty, and native
and non-native speakers from the community who
gather to practice speaking and listening to the
Spanish language in a relaxed, congenial atmosphere.
The group meets every Wednesday from 4:00 to 5:00
PM at Juri’s Cafee in the University Place
shopping center.

The International Club has evolved from what
was originally the Foreign Language Club.
The name
change reflects the fact that membership is
not limited to foreign language students,
but to
anyone interested in learning about other countries
and cultures. Speakers from different countries,
or who have lived or traveled abroad, are invited
to address the group. One of the club’s
most popular activities is the International
Food Festival, held each fall. Members bring
dishes from different countries, and invite faculty
and administrators to enjoy the feast. Other
activities include a Spring Formal, held on or
around Valentine’s Day, and a trip in
April to the International Music Festival in
Lafayette.
The club has also given its support to a Christmas
Party, sponsored by the Philadelphia Center,
for children with AIDS. The club meets the
first and third Thursday of each month in the
Foreign
Language Laboratory (BH 242). Contact
