| Mr. Batten earned his Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from Louisiana Tech University, School of Art and Architecture in 1971. He earned the terminal Masters of Fine Arts degree from the Bloomington campus of Indiana University in 1976 where he majored in Design. Batten joined the LSUS faculty in 1979 after working four years as owner of a local graphic design firm which produced art through Focus Design Group for Hamel’s Park, Fabsteel, Delta Downs, Pioneer Bank, Nautilus Fitness Center, and other regional businesses.
Mr. Batten’s research interests include design, graphic design, sculpture and public art. He has been involved recently in various local and regional exhibitions. In June of 2002 he was selected by the Shreveport Regional Arts Council to produce exterior designs for two Sportran buses; Caddo Heritage Bus (honoring Caddo Indians) and Sunflower Trail Bus (honoring the sunflower fields of northern Caddo Parish). In October of 2002 he was selected by the Bossier Public Art Board to produce the Patriots Celebration Medallion, a large circular exterior mosaic for the CenturyTel Center.
Mr. Batten is also actively involved in the solicitation and administration of grants. His most recent endeavors include: “Enhancement of LSUS Fine Arts Graphics Lab” (PI), a BORSF Grant that was funded in 2001 for $88,062; “Software Enhancement for Fine Arts Graphics Courses” (Co-PI), a BORSF Grant that was funded in 2001 for $37,500; “Computer Graphics Lab” (PI), a BORSF Grant that was funded in 1999 for $76,895. As chairman of the Department of Fine Arts, Foreign Languages, and Humanities he has also been involved with various funded Foreign Language Grants ($97,200 since 1998) and funded Music Grants ($102,714 since 1998). |
