The Department of English
shares a broad philosophy with the other departments in
the College of Liberal Arts: to enable you to interpret,
evaluate, and alter your world. We are committed to helping
you develop the characteristics of reading perceptively,
thinking critically, and writing effectively. Our program
of study, of course, leads to a Bachelor of Arts degree
in English. You can also receive a minor in English as
well as a minor in Professional Communications.
You can learn more about the Department and its programs
by browsing through our Departmental Handbook for Students.
In addition to information about the Department, the
Handbook also contains instructional material about the
writing process along with general information about
writing assessment.
If you are undecided whether English would be a good major
for you, take a look at our prospectus, as well as a list
of occupations for which majoring in English qualifies
you.
