| The "Mayor's Award of Sports Excellence" will be presented to Coach Chad McDowell and the LSUS Men's basketball team Tuesday, July 22, 2008. The presentation will take place during the City Council meeting at 3:00 p.m. at Government Plaza in City Council Chambers. The Pilot’s award is first on the agenda. |

| LSUS will be the site of an educational seminar on the basics of land/mineral leasing and drilling Tuesday, June 24, 2008 from 6:00- 7:30 p.m. in the University Center Theater. Don Briggs, President, Louisiana Oil & Gas Association (LOGA) and Becky Berry, Director, LSU Center for Business and Economic Research (CBER) will host the seminar. |

| The Louisiana Department of Insurance Consumer Advocate, Clarissa A. Preston, will be introduced to the residents of northwest Louisiana during a public forum on June 19, 2008 at 7:00 p.m. in the University Center Webster Room on the LSUS campus. The Louisiana Consortium of Insurance and Financial Services is hosting the event. |
| LSUS Hosts Financial Independence for Life Seminar (6/12/2008) |
| LSUS will host the “Financial Independence for Life” seminar June 9-20, 2008 in Bronson Hall. Twenty six local eighth and ninth grade students have been selected to share in a learning environment with 10 middle and high school teachers. The seminar is presented by the Louisiana Consortium of Insurance and Financial Services’ (LCIFS) Institute of Financial Literacy. |
| LSUS to Honor Julia Vaughn, Recipient of NAIA A.O. Duer Award (6/10/2008) |
Julia Vaughn, LSUS women’s soccer player, will be honored Thursday, June 12, 2008 at 2:30 p.m. in the Chancellor’s Board Room on the second floor of the Administration Building. The National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) awarded Vaughn with the A.O. Duer Award, which is presented annually to a junior men’s and women’s student-athlete in any sport who has excelled in character, playing ability and scholarship. Since 1967, the Duer Award has been presented in honor of the late former NAIA executive director Al Duer who was responsible for the NAIA’s role as the first collegiate organization to be fully integrated. |
| Two LSUS Professors Part of Team to Receive NIH Grant Renewal (6/10/2008) |
A multi-million dollar grant from the National Institutes of Health (NIH) has been renewed for the collaborative research conducted at the LSUHSC Center for Molecular and Tumor Virology (CMTV). The announcement will be made at a press conference on Thursday, June 12, 2008 at 2:00 p.m. The grant has funded the CMTV for the past five years and with the renewal for another five years, the total of the 10 years of funding is $9,704.477.00. |
| American Studies Lecture Series Continues in June (6/9/2008) |
The International Lincoln Center for American Studies will present the last three lectures in the American Studies Lecture Series at LSUS June 17, 18, 19. The American Studies program is celebrating its 25th anniversary. |
| Local Dealers to Pay Motorcycle Safety Course Fee (5/27/2008) |
Buy a new or designated used motorcycle at Shreveport Motorsports, Bossier Yamaha Powersports, Alleman Cycle Plex or G & C Honda and customers will get a free Basic Motorcycle Rider Course at LSUS. The dealerships will pay for the course, which is offered through the Division of Continuing Education. |

The College of Sciences will host four summer sessions in June to help high school students gain a better understanding of the nature and rewards of career opportunities in the fields of mathematics and science. |

| LSUS Jazz to Perform Spring Concert (4/24/2008) |
| The LSUS Jazz, the university's student jazz band, will perform in a Spring Concert Tuesday, April 29, 2008 at 7:00 p.m. in the University Center Theater. Admission is free. The band will perform several traditional jazz selections composed by some of the great names in jazz, including Duke Ellington, Thelonius Monk, Miles Davis, Dizzy Gillespie and others. LSUS Jazz director is Allen Swilley. |
| “Walking With a Panther” Presented by LSUS Department of Communications (4/22/2008) |
| The LSUS Department of Communications presents Sy Richardson in “Walking With a Panther,” a play by Sheri Bailey and directed by Robert Alford, assistant professor at LSUS. Performances will be held in the LSUS Black Box Theatre in Bronson Hall, Room 111. A preview performance will be held Thursday, April 24, 2008 at 8:00 p.m. Tickets are $5. Regularly scheduled performances will be held April 25 – 27, 2008 and May 1 – 4, 2008 at 8:00 p.m. Saturday afternoon shows are available on April 26 and May 3 at 2:00 p.m. Tickets are $15 with advance reservation, $18 at the door and $8 for students, educators, seniors, military personnel and groups of five or more |
| LSUS Professor to Speak at Massachusetts School of Law (4/22/2008) |
Dr. William D. Pederson, professor of Political Science at LSUS, will be a guest speaker at the presidential conference “Chasing Success or Courting Failure?” His presentation is entitled “Leadership Similarities of George Washington, Abraham Lincoln, and Franklin Roosevelt.” The conference, which will be covered live by C-SPAN, will be held on April 26 – 27, 2008 at the Massachusetts School of Law in Andover. |
| LSUS Archives and Special Collections to Host Book Signing (4/22/2008) |
LSUS Archives and Special Collections will host a book signing of “Shreveport Sounds in Black and White” on Friday, April 25, 2008 at 11:00 a.m. on the third floor of the Noel Memorial Library. Editors Kip Lornell and Tracey E. W. Laird will be on hand to sign copies of the book which delves into the rich history of roots music in Shreveport and the Ark-La-Tex region. Books will be available for purchase at $50 for cloth and $25 for paperback. |

| Dr. Mario Livio will lecture and hold a book signing at LSUS at 7:00 p.m. Tuesday, April 22, 2008 in the University Center Theater. His lecture, which is free and open to the public, is entitled “Our Amazing Universe: The Greatest Achievements of the Hubble Space Telescope.” |
| Marathon Reading of “Paradise Lost” at LSUS (4/16/2008) |
The LSUS English Department will host a marathon reading of John Milton’s “Paradise Lost” from start to finish on Saturday, April 19, 2008 from 8:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. in Bronson Hall, Room 261. The marathon reading is free and open to the public. Those interested may drop in anytime during the day to listen or participate in the reading. |

The LSUS Department of Communications presents “Murder at the Banquet” April 17, 2008 through April 19, 2008 at 8:00 p.m. in the LSUS Black Box Theatre in Bronson Hall at LSUS. Tickets for the three performances are $5 for students, educators, seniors, military and groups of five or more. Others may purchase tickets for $10. Seating is limited. |
| LSUS Alumni Association Golf Tournament Announced (4/14/2008) |
The 10th Annual LSUS Alumni Association Capital One Pilots Golf Classic will fire off with an 11:00 a.m. shotgun start Friday, May 2, 2008 at Olde Oaks Golf Club in Haughton, Louisiana. Capital One Bank will serve as title sponsor for the event and Congressman Jim McCrery has signed on as honorary tournament director. |
| LSUS to Host Spring Employer Expo (4/11/2008) |
The LSUS Career Services Office is announcing a new event on campus this spring: the Spring Employer Expo. The event will be held on Tuesday, April 15, 2008, from 10:00 a.m. until 1:30 p.m. in the University Center Ballroom. The Spring Employer Expo is open to all college students from surrounding areas and will be held every spring. Students and alumni are encouraged to attend and explore openings for summer jobs, internships and full-time career opportunities. Representatives from a diverse group of employers will be available to talk to students about opportunities in their industries. |
