LSUS Awards 282 Degrees at Spring Commencement  (5/18/2009)
            Louisiana State University in Shreveport awards 282 degrees at its spring commencement exercises Sunday, May 17, 2009 at CenturyTel Center in Bossier City, Louisiana.  LSUS also awards John Good, Jr., a 1977 graduate, with a Bachelor of Science in Accounting degree, with the Alumni Association’s 2009 Distinguished Alumnus Award.  Good is the developer of Louisiana Boardwalk and the StoneBridge Golf Club and Residential Community.  His newest project, Villaggio, is a 64-acre residential and retail development in North Bossier City.  The award is given to alumni who have exhibited exemplary leadership and service to LSUS and the community at large.
 
LSUS Practical Nursing Program Has 100% Pass Rate  (5/4/2009)
            The second graduating class of the LSU Shreveport Practical Nursing Program has a 100% pass rate.  This is the second class to graduate from the program and the second class to achieve a 100% pass rate.
 
LSUS Student Government Association Announces Professor of the Year  (4/20/2009)
          The LSUS Student Government Association announced the 2009 Professor of the Year at the Student Leadership Awards ceremony.  This year’s award went to Associate Professor of Marketing Wolfgang Hinck.
 
LSUS Debate Takes Top Awards at Tournament  (4/9/2009)
            The LSUS Debate and Forensic team won the 2009 International Public Debate Association Championship Tournament.  The team won a total of 30 tournament and season trophies, including an additional five national awards.  Trey Gibson, instructor and director of debate at LSUS, was named the 2009 Coach of the Year.
 
LSUS Bass Club Places Second in College Series  (3/25/2009)
            The LSUS Bass Club placed 2nd in the FLW College Series Event on Sam Rayburn Lake in east Texas.
 
LSUS Men’s Basketball Player Receives National Character Award and Scholarship  (3/24/2009)

            LSUS Men’s Basketball player Jared Stevenson was honored as one of four NAIA student-athletes named Pattison Scholarship Award winners at the 2009 Buffalo Funds-NAIA Men’s Basketball National Championship tip-off banquet this past Tuesday night.

 
LSUS Academic Reorganization Proposed in Preparation for Budget Cuts  (3/8/2009)
            In anticipation of the upcoming 2009-2010 budget cuts to higher education, LSUS is proposing an academic reorganization of the four academic colleges into two colleges:  College of Arts and Sciences and College of Professional Studies.
 
Students Vote Against Proposed Fee for Fitness & Recreation Center  (3/8/2009)

LSUS students voted against a proposed $120 student fee to support the planning, building and operation for a new Fitness and Recreation Center building.  The referendum voting ended Monday evening with the following results: 34.9% for and 65.1% against.  The percentage of currently enrolled students who voted was 38.7%.

 
LSUS Spring 2009 Enrollment Increases 10.5%  (2/10/2009)
            Total enrollment at LSUS in the spring semester is 4209 students, which represents a 10.5% increase over the spring 2008 total enrollment of 3809 students.
 
LSUS Professor Named Editor in Chief of Journal  (1/28/2009)
            LSUS Professor Binshan Lin was named the editor in chief of the Journal of Computer Information Systems, the official publication of the International Association for Computer Information Systems.  The journal is published quarterly.
 
LSUS Professor Elected to Mathematical Association of America’s Board of Governors  (1/26/2009)
            LSUS Associate Professor Judith Covington was elected to the Mathematical Association of America’s Board of Governors representing the area of teacher education.  She will be representing the members of the association with an interest in teacher preparation.
 
LSUS Professor Awarded A.M. Pate Distinguished Service Award  (1/15/2009)
            LSUS Professor of History Dr. Gary Joiner will be awarded the first A.M. Pate Distinguished Service Award for Civil War History by the Fort Worth Civil War Round Table.
 
Director Named Chairman of Shreveport-Bossier Convention and Tourist Bureau  (1/8/2009)
            LSUS Pioneer Heritage Center Director Marty Young has been elected chairman of the board of directors for the Shreveport-Bossier Convention and Tourist Bureau for 2009.
 
LSUS College of Sciences Hosts International Year of Astronomy Events  (1/8/2009)
            The LSUS College of Sciences and the Shreveport-Bossier Astronomical Society will host International Year of Astronomy events for northwest Louisiana throughout 2009.
 
LSUS Professor Authors Book  (12/12/2008)
            Dr. William D. Pederson, LSUS professor of history, has authored “Madison:  Philosopher, Founder, and Statesman,” being released by the Ohio University Press.  The book was authored in honor of the 25th anniversary of the American Studies Center.
 
LSUS Professor has Booked Published  (11/17/2008)
            LSUS Assistant Professor of English Nicole Peeler has signed a three-book deal with agent Rebecca Strauss of McIntosh and Otis Inc.  The first volume “Tempest Rising” will be published in winter 2009.
 
LSUS Newspaper Launches New Website  (11/17/2008)

The LSUS newspaper, The Almagest, has launched a new website www.thealmagest.com.
