Dean’s and Chancellor’s Lists Announced for Spring 2010 Semester  (6/30/2010)

LSU Shreveport is pleased to announce the Spring 2010 Chancellor's List and Dean's List.  These full-time undergraduate students have a semester grade point average of at least 3.5.

 
LSU Shreveport Circle of Excellence Winners Announced  (6/14/2010)

Eight LSU Shreveport alumni were honored at the Annual Meeting of the Alumni Association at the University Club.  The award, which was instituted in 2007 for the LSU Shreveport 40th Anniversary, honors alumni for leadership and professional achievements.

LSU Shreveport Awarded Prestigious Grant from the Institute of Museum and Library Services  (4/30/2010)

Thanks to a grant from the federal Institute of Museum and Library Services (IMLS), the Archives and Special Collections at LSU Shreveport will lead the Louisiana Libraries, Archives and Museums Preservation Project (LA LAMPP) in creating cooperation among archives, libraries and museums across Louisiana in order to preserve the state’s historical record. The IMLS Connecting to Collections planning grant will enable LA LAMPP partners, Louisiana Archives and Manuscripts Association (LAMA), Le Comité des Archives, Louisiana Association of Museums (LAM) and LYRASIS (regional library services organization) to provide training and education in preservation planning and to survey cultural heritage institutions on the preservation status of their historical materials.  It will also develop a comprehensive plan with a view toward a future statewide implementation grant.

 
Students Inducted into Phi Kappa Phi Honor Society  (4/27/2010)
The LSU Shreveport chapter of Phi Kappa Phi held its 2010 Initiation Ceremony Sunday, April 25, 2010 on the 3rd floor of the Noel Memorial Library.  Thirty juniors and 29 seniors met the stringent requirements and accepted membership into Phi Kappa Phi, which is the nation’s oldest, largest and most selective all-discipline honor society.  The society’s mission is to recognize and promote academic excellence in all fields of higher education and to engage the community of scholars in service to others.  The initiates pledged to follow Phi Kappa Phi’s motto: “Philosophía Krateítõ Phõtôn,” which translates as “Let the love of learning rule humanity.”
 
Wayne Hogue Selected as 2009-2010 Professor of the Year  (4/23/2010)

Wayne Hogue, instructor of management at LSU Shreveport, was selected by students as the 2009-2010 Professor of the Year.  Hogue joined the faculty at LSU Shreveport in 2003 and is also the director of the LSUS LEAD (Leadership Education And Development) program. He is the faculty advisor for Rotaract Club and the originator of the club’s Black Tie… Or Not… Benefit Ball, which supports the Shreveport-Bossier Rescue Mission.

 
LSUS Foundation Recognizes Students, Donors at Appreciation Dinner  (4/20/2010)

The LSUS Foundation welcomed its members to the Annual Foundation Appreciation Dinner on April 14, 2010 at The Shreveport Club.  Under the theme “Student’s Say Thanks,” student scholarship recipients were given the opportunity to express their appreciation to members for their LSUS Foundation-funded scholarships.

The LSUS Foundation welcomed its members to the Annual Foundation Appreciation Dinner on April 14, 2010 at The Shreveport Club. This year’s Appreciation Dinner theme, “Students Say Thanks”, allowed Jake Greene and Stephanie Treadway, featured speakers of the evening, to highlight the impact of scholarships on their academic careers.
 
Weightlifting National Championships to be Held at LSU Shreveport in 2011  (4/16/2010)

USA Weightlifting announced today that LSU Shreveport will host the 2011 USA Weightlifting National Collegiate Championships with more than 125 competitors from at least 50 colleges and universities throughout the nation.

 
Japanese Weightlifters Training at LSU Shreveport  (2/19/2010)

Ten weightlifters and two coaches from Japan are currently training with the LSU Shreveport Team.  This is the second year in a row that Japanese Collegiate Weightlifters are training at LSU Shreveport.  Coach Junichi Okada, a professor at Waseda University in Tokyo, and Coach Tomoko Kato, who represented Japan eight times in the World Championships, are leading the lifters.  The team represents seven universities throughout Japan:  Ritsumeikan University in Kyoto, Kansai University in Osaka, Kyushu International University in Fukuoka, Meio University in Okinawa, and in Tokyo, Nihon University, Hosei University, and Waseda University.

 
LSU Shreveport Debate Team Wins Two Championships  (2/5/2010)
The LSU Shreveport Debate Team started off 2010 strong by beating all teams, including SEC teams from LSU and Ole Miss, by winning the Louisiana Intercollegiate Forensics Championships and Tri-state Championships.  This is the second year in a row the LSU Shreveport Debate Team has won both championships.
 
President Obama Recognizes LSU Shreveport Graduate  (1/13/2010)

President Obama recently honored teachers with awards for excellence in mathematics and science teaching and mentoring, including LSU Shreveport graduate Kendra R. Pullen.  She received her Masters in Education Leadership from LSUS in 2008.  She is now a fourth grade science teacher at Riverside Elementary School in Shreveport.

 
LSU Shreveport Awards 340 Degrees at Winter Commencement  (12/23/2009)

LSU Shreveport awarded 340 degrees at its winter commencement exercises Saturday, December 19, 2009 at CenturyTel Center in Bossier City.  Congressman John C. Fleming delivered the commencement address.

 
Enrollment at LSU Shreveport Increases 8.76%  (9/21/2009)
            For the second year in a row, LSU Shreveport is reporting an increase in enrollment.  For the fall semester, LSUS is reporting 4667 students, which is an increase of 8.76%.  This includes an increase in reentry (7.14%) and transfer (23.25%) students.
