Future Expectations for LSUS

LSU System President Dr. William Jenkins (standing left) listens to a policy explanation offered by W. Clinton “Bubba” Rasberry Jr., a member of the Louisiana Board of Regents, during a Q&A session following a presentation Jenkins made concerning the future of the LSU System and the role LSUS will play in higher education in Northwest Louisiana.LSUS soon will arrive at a unique intersection of its past, present, and future.  When, in 2007, LSUS celebrates the 40-year anniversary of its founding, we will be taking aggressive action to chart our future, building on today’s momentum of a proud foundation of academic excellence.

Efforts will continue to concentrate upon endowments for academic programs, faculty positions and scholarships – all aimed at making LSUS the best it can be.  The amount of money invested in student instruction and academic resources and the caliber of students enrolled, all chief indicators of a university’s stature, must be expanded to include research programs and doctorial degrees.  If we are to continue a competitive athletic program, resources and facilities must be provided.

Improving and increasing academic programs, attracting greater numbers of distinguished faculty, expanding research, and recruiting higher-achieving students will make a material difference in the ability of LSUS to become a great university.   Our planning must be bold and intelligent.  As we celebrate  past memories, we will be charting bold, future explorations.
