Applying for Financial Aid @ LSUS:
COMPLETE the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA)
- Prior to completing the FAFSA, you will need a personal identification number (PIN) for yourself and a PIN for your parents if they are required to sign your application. Apply for a PIN at www.pin.ed.gov. The PIN will allow you to sign your application electronically, thereby reducing processing time. If you do not obtain a PIN, you must submit the signature page by mail.
- Fill out the FAFSA online at www.fafsa.ed.gov or through LSUS’ website at www.lsus.edu/finaid. Whether in electronic or printed form, send the completed FAFSA directly to the United States Department of Education’s Central Processing Service (CPS).
- You must list LSUS’ school code, 002013, in order for the university to receive a report describing your aid eligibility. Failure to list the LSUS school code will delay the application process. There is no charge for filing a FAFSA.
APPLY for Admission to LSUS
- Before you can be awarded any federal financial aid, you must be unconditionally accepted for admission to LSUS. All required documents
must be submitted.
- All required academic transcripts (high school and/or college) must be on file
in the Admissions and Records Office.
- You also must be making satisfactory academic progress based on the record of all college level courses in which you have enrolled. You can obtain a copy of the LSUS Satisfactory Academic Progress Policy in the Financial Aid Office or at www.lsus.edu/finaid/apply_sap.asp
REVIEW your Student Aid Report
- After your FAFSA has been processed by the CPS, you will receive a Student
Aid Report (SAR). If you submit a paper application through the mail, a
printed SAR will be mailed to you. If you submit your FAFSA through the
web, provide your email address, and meet all CPS criteria, you will receive a
SAR acknowledgement. This will enable you to view or print your SAR as
often as needed.
- You should review your SAR carefully to ensure that it is accurate. If your
SAR is rejected or requires correction, read the instructions carefully, and take
the appropriate action. If corrections are necessary, you must send the
corrected SAR back to the CPS. When submitting your SAR corrections, be
sure to include all necessary signatures and/or your PIN.
- If additional documents are needed to process your financial aid, LSUS will
mail you a letter describing what you must submit. You will not receive aid
until all required documents are received in the Financial Aid Office. When
all required materials have been received, your file will be reviewed, and your
financial aid will be awarded if you meet all eligibility standards. You will
receive an award letter describing the financial aid awards that LSUS is
offering you. The financial aid process is not complete until the Financial Aid
Office receives a copy of the award letter signed by you with a notation
indicating whether you are accepting or declining each form of financial aid
offered to you.
