With the exceptions of scholarships and fee exemptions, financial aid is awarded on the basis of need. Need is determined by the following equation:

costs - family contribution = financial need

How It Works

First, the cost of attending LSUS is calculated. Cost of attendance includes tuition, fees, books, room and board, transportation, and personal expenses. The amount of financial assistance your family is expected to provide is subtracted from the total cost. The amount of financial assistance expected is established by the federally approved needs analysis. Costs minus family contribution equals financial need.

Conditions

You must be enrolled at least half-time as a regular student in pursuit of a degree or teacher certification. Sometimes Pell Grant funding is provided for less than half-time students.

You must be a U.S. citizen or establish that you are an eligible non-citizen by possessing a copy of the I-151 or I-551 Alien Registration Receipt Card.

You must maintain satisfactory academic progress SAP as established by LSUS.

New students or transfer students must have all required academic transcripts on file with the Admissions Office. Provisionally admitted students may not receive financial aid or financial aid extension on paying registration fees.

You must not owe a refund on a Federal grant or be in default on any Federal student loan previously received at any institution.

Study Abroad: Students may be eligible to receive student financial aid for study abroad if the program is offered through LSUS and approved for credit by LSUS.

You must reapply and have financial need re-established each school year.

Students cannot receive federal financial aid for correspondence courses.
