Kappa Delta Pi
Kappa Delta Pi, International Honor Society in Education,
was founded March 8, 1911, at the University of Illinois.
Organized to recognize excellence in education, Kappa Delta
Pi elects those to membership who exhibit the ideals of
scholarship, high personal standards, and promise in teaching
and allied professions. It encourages improvement, distinction
in achievement, and contributions to education. Kappa Delta
Pi is an honor society of, about, and for educators. Selection
as a member of Kappa Delta Pi is based on high academic
achievement, a commitment to education as a career, and
a professional attitude that assures steady growth in the
profession.
LAE-SP
(Louisiana Association of Educators - Student Program)

The purpose of the organization is to promote the development
of professional interest and attitudes among college students
preparing for the teaching profession. Membership provides
classroom insurance coverage, state and national publications
and a discount off post-graduation NEA and LEA dues. Participation
in LAESP functions gives preservice teachers the opportunity
to interact with LSUS faculty and the Professional Development
School faculty, staff, and students.
Each
semester LAESP sponsors or participates in a number of
activities, such as:
- a
reception honoring student teachers and their cooperating
teachers;
- a
Children's Book Fair as the main fund-raising activity;
- campus
events such as SOAR, Fall Fest and Spring Fling;
- service
projects benefitting the Professional Development
School.
Meetings are held on Thursdays during Common Hour (10:30-11:15)
once or twice a month. Meeting dates are posted on fliers
in all campus buildings.
The KHSS Club
The
student (Professional in-training) organization dedicated
to serving
the needs
of future physical educators, coaches
and exercise scientists of our community. KHSS Club members
strive to serve their professional community by participating
in professional and personal development activities. The
KHSS Club is committed to the promotion of our community’s
physical health and welfare.
Psi
Chi
Psi
Chi is the National Honor Society in Psychology, founded
in 1929 for the purposes of encouraging, stimulating, and
maintaining excellence in scholarship, and advancing the
science of psychology. Membership is open to graduate and
undergraduate men and women who are making the study of psychology
one of their major interests, and who meet the minimum qualifications.
Psi Chi is a member of the Association of College Honor Societies
and is an affiliate of the American Psychological Association
(APA) and the American Psychological Society (APS).
Psychology
Club
The
purpose of the Psychology Club is to advance the science of
psychology among its membership and in the community. Currently
enrolled students at LSUS are eligible for membership. The
club traditionally meets on the 1st and 3rd Thursday of each
month. During the meetings club business is discussed and often
a guest speaker will present information applicable to the
field of psychology. Two faculty members are appointed to serve
as advisors. |
