Kappa Delta Pi
Kappa Delta Pi, International Honor Society in Education, was founded March 8, 1911, at the University of Illinois. Organized to recognize excellence in education, Kappa Delta Pi elects those to membership who exhibit the ideals of scholarship, high personal standards, and promise in teaching and allied professions. It encourages improvement, distinction in achievement, and contributions to education. Kappa Delta Pi is an honor society of, about, and for educators. Selection as a member of Kappa Delta Pi is based on high academic achievement, a commitment to education as a career, and a professional attitude that assures steady growth in the profession.

LAE-SP
(Louisiana Association of Educators - Student Program)
Faculty Advisor: Ms. Candi Bagley, BE 368, 795-4247

The purpose of the organization is to promote the development of professional interest and attitudes among college students preparing for the teaching profession. Membership provides classroom insurance coverage, state and national publications and a discount off post-graduation NEA and LEA dues. Participation in LAESP functions gives preservice teachers the opportunity to interact with LSUS faculty and the Professional Development School faculty, staff, and students.

Each semester LAESP sponsors or participates in a number of activities, such as:

  • a reception honoring student teachers and their cooperating teachers;
  • a Children's Book Fair as the main fund-raising activity;
  • campus events such as SOAR, Fall Fest and Spring Fling;
  • service projects benefitting the Professional Development School.

Meetings are held on Thursdays during Common Hour (10:30-11:15) once or twice a month. Meeting dates are posted on fliers in all campus buildings.

Psi Chi is a member of the Association of College Honor Societies and is an affiliate of the American Psychological Association (APA) and the American Psychological Society (APS).
