First year teachers from LSUS once again have far surpassed state averages on the Louisiana Teacher Assistance and Assessment Program 12/12/2003
According to the Louisiana Department of Education’s Analysis of Assessment Semester Results for the 2002-2003 School year LSUS graduate teachers received 100 percent in seven of the 25 categories measured. In addition, teachers educated at LSUS were above 95 percent in 14 categories and above 92 percent in the remaining four categories. Purpose of the program is to provide new teachers with a planned program of leadership and support from experienced educators during the most formative stages of their experience in Louisiana schools, while providing the state with information regarding teacher competency prior to the issuance of a permanent Louisiana teacher certificate. Candi Bagley, who, as director of field experiences at LSUS, oversees student teachers, said, “I am pleased, but not surprised, to know how well our students perform in their own classrooms. We consistently receive feedback from graduates that they feel confident and well-prepared for all aspects of a teaching career.” Echoing Bagley’s remarks, Dr. Gale Bridger, dean of the College of Education and Human Development at LSUS, said, “These superb measures of our graduates’ performance are simply one evidence of the quality of our program, of our teacher education students’ commitment to high standards and genuine caring for children and youth, and of our faculty’s excellence in preparing these professional educators.”
