| Dr. Ronald Byrd received his bachelors and masters degrees from Northwestern State College (now NSU, in Natchitoches, LA) and his doctorate with an emphasis in exercise physiology from Florida State University. Immediately following receipt of the Ph.D., he served a postdoctoral year in the prestigious Institute of Environmental Stress at the University of California at Santa Barbara. In subsequent years he has served at Florida State University (6 years), the University of Alabama in Birmingham (3 years), Louisiana State University in Baton Rouge (10 years; 6 as Director of the School of HPERD), and Louisiana State University in Shreveport (13 years; 6 as Dean of the College of Education). He has been a Fulbright Senior Lecturer in Malaysia twice (1980, eight months; 1999, two months), has authored over 100 journal articles, and has presented papers across the United States and in Puerto Rico, Thailand, Malaysia, the Philippines, Canada, Mexico, and England. He is a State Board Licensed Clinical Exercise Physiologist (license # 00001). He has consulted and done cooperative projects with the LSU Medical Center, Willis Knighton Health Systems, local retirement centers, USA Weightlifting, and the United States Olympic Committee. Dr. Byrd is active in practicing what he preaches, being defending Seniors’ National Badminton Doubles champion (two times) and playing on a Senior Games basketball team that won three state championships in 2002 and is a favorite for the Nationals in 2003. |
