Dr. Ruth L. Ray earned the Ph. D. in Education from Colorado State University in 2001. Prior to receiving her Ph. D., Ray completed her Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in Education at Southern University in Baton Rouge.

Dr. Ray joined the LSUS faculty in the Fall of 2002 after having served as an instructor at Colorado State University and adjunct professor at Southern University. Dr. Ray’s prior professional experience includes teaching English at the middle and high school levels, serving as Interim Assistant Principal, Assistant Principal of Instruction, Co-director of Summer School, and eventually as Principal in Iberville Parish.

As an Assistant Professor at LSUS, Dr. Ray is currently teaching School Administration, School Personnel Administration, Elementary/Secondary School Principal, as well as School and Community Relations. She also supervises student teachers and interns.

Presently, Dr. Ray is conducting research on Teacher Leadership as well as effectiveness of pre-service programs for school administrators. Prior research topics surrounded zero tolerance policies in schools and multicultural issues in public education. An article co-authored by Dr. Ray is slated to appear in the December 2002 issue of The Western Journal of Black Studies.

Dr. Ray is a member of the Louisiana Council of Professors of Educational Administration, Association of Supervision and Curriculum Development, Kappa Delta Pi Education Fraternity, National Association of Secondary School Principals, and the National Education Association.
