Shannon Wall is a 1992 graduate of LSU-Shreveport. He has been teaching in Caddo Parish for ten years and is presently an English teacher, girls’ basketball and golf coach, and Athletic Director at Northwood High School where he has been for his entire ten years. He has been married to his wife Mandy (1998 LSUS Grad) for eight years, and they have two beautiful cocker spaniels, Karmen and Allie.
In the fall of 1987, Shannon, like every entering college freshman, remembers not knowing what he really wanted to be: “It was a confusing time. All I can remember is that I wanted to be important, and I wanted to make a lot of money. One out of two is not bad.”
Wall has fond memories of his undergrad experience at LSUS: “My first few years were challenging, but the instructors were very helpful. Eventually, I became academically proficient and was able to really enjoy student life. My friends and I participated in intramurals, attended performances in the UC auditorium, and played GOTCHA! tournaments on campus. We had a blast!” Shannon was also a two-year member of the baseball team at LSUS, including the inaugural season.
As a girls’ basketball coach at Northwood High School, Shannon has compiled a record of 219 wins and 112 losses. He was named District 1-4A Coach of Year five consecutive years from 1994 to 1998. He was also named Shreveport/Bossier Coach of the Year in 1995 and 1996. Several of his former players have gone on to play on all levels of college basketball. Furthermore, one of his former players, Brandi Green, played professional basketball in Europe.
As a teacher, Shannon was named Northwood High School’s teacher of the year for 2002. Also, he was named one of Teen Ink magazine’s Educators of the Year for 2002 and received a $250 award. While Wall is proud of both awards, he is most proud of the Teen Ink award because it is a student-nominated award. Shannon’s teaching philosophy is simple: “All kids can learn, and it is the responsibility of the educator to shape an educational experience to fit each child.”
Currently, Wall is working on his Master’s degree in Principalship at LSUS and hopes to one day be a principal at his high school alma mater, Northwood High School. He is also a current member of Kappa Delta Pi.
