About the College

The College of Education and Human Development views itself as a professional learning community producing graduates committed to lifelong learning and continuous improvement. To that end the college is committed to offering a diverse array of programs all anchored in the continuous process of human development.

Every curriculum for the preparation of teachers represents the collaborative efforts of all academic departments involved. The College not only provides leadership in all areas of teacher education; it also offers service courses for the University and the community in health and physical education and in psychology.

The Department of Psychology emphasizes the relationship between individual thought and behavior patterns as they relate to the culture at large. Graduate work in school psychology addresses this and other contemporary issues in human development. As part of the College of Education, the Department of Psychology recognizes that teachers must understand the psychology of the urban and rural disadvantaged and other diverse groups in our schools and communities.

The Department of Kinesiology and Health Sciences offers an undergraduate program in health and physical education leading to teacher certification. The department offers a baccalaureate degree in Community Health.

Together the three departments of the college are dedicated to providing excellence in instruction, research, and service as they produce graduates who are leaders in their chosen fields.
