DR. VINCENT J. MARSALA
CHANCELLOR
LSU IN SHREVEPORT

A native of Monroe, Louisiana, Dr. Vincent J. Marsala received his Ph.D. in Latin American Studies from LSU in Baton Rouge in 1967. Since 1967 Dr. Marsala has been at LSU in Shreveport and has held the following positions:

  • Chancellor
  • Interim Chancellor
  • Professor of History
  • Dean of the Division of Continuing Education and Public Service
  • Dean of the College of General Studies
  • Coordinator of the LSU A & M Graduate Resident Program
  • Chairman, Department of Social Science

During his years at LSUS he has taught Louisiana History, Louisiana Government, and Latin American History. He has done extensive research in his areas of expertise including several publications on the late U.S. Senator Joseph E. Ransdell of Lake Providence, Louisiana, and his latest publication was editing with Dr. Bill Pederson a book entitled, Abraham Lincoln: Sources and Style of Leadership. Dr. Marsala served on the Governor’s Higher Education Commission for the 21st Century in 1994, and in 1984, he received a Fulbright Award for a Group Study Project to Costa Rica entitled, “The Social Context of Crisis in Central America.” Dr. Marsala served as an elected Caddo Parish Commissioner from 1987-1991 and ran unopposed for a second term, 1991-1995. He served as chair of CERT (Consortium for Education, Research and Technology) whose membership consists of all the CEO’s of all colleges and universities in North Louisiana from 1996-1998 and is presently Treasurer of CERT.

Dr. Marsala currently serves on the Board of Directors of:

In 1995 Dr. Marsala was honored by being selected as “Administrator of the Year 1995,” by the Louisiana Association of Educational Office Personnel. In 1999 he received the first-ever “Pilot of the Year” award presented to him by the LSUS Alumni Association. On October 7, 2003, Dr. Marsala was recognized by Junior Achievement of North Louisiana as a Laureate of the North Louisiana Business Hall of Fame. In addition to his love for reading and politics, he enjoys hunting and bass fishing.
