The student majoring in English must take at least 42 hours above freshman English, with at least 30 of those hours in courses numbered 300 and above. The student must also complete one foreign language through the sophomore year (usually 12 hours) and must take at least 6 hours in courses numbered 300 and above offered by other departments.

English Minor: The student choosing to minor in English must earn 21 hours in English, consisting of 9 hours of core requirements(ENGL 205, ENGL 206, and ENGL 207) and 12 hours chosen from any English course numbered 226 and above. The student wishing to focus on writing and composition should choose as their 12 hours the following: ENGL 226, ENGL 325 or 326, ENGL 301 or 400, and ENGL 499.
