The nature of culture; social organization; primitive religion, magic,
and arts. Three hours of lecture.

Origin, distribution, language, and culture of the aboriginal population.

ANTH 395: Independent Studies 3 cr.
Prerequisite: Consent of the department. May be repeated for credit
for a maximum of six semester hours. Students must petition for the course
the semester preceding. Special research projects under the guidance of
a member of the anthropology faculty. Three hours of research.
ANTH 429: Folklore 3 cr.
Survey of traditional tales and oral literature, and of other elements
of folk culture such as ethnobotany, folk music, and folk housing, with
emphasis on Louisiana. Students will collect and preserve some elements
of local folklore as part of the course. Three hours of lecture.
