INDS 101: Introduction to the Culture of India 3

A broad and general introduction to the culture(s) of the Indian
subcontinent, focusing on its geography, history, politics, economy,
social structure, languages and the arts, and religion. Three hours
of lecture.
INDS 211: Epics on Film 3 cr.
This course examines two major Indian epics, Ramayana and Mahabharata,
on film. Students will read prose translations of the two epics
and watch video productions of both as a means to deepening their
understanding of the embedded mythic structures in Indian social,
economic, and political life. Three hours of lecture.
INDS 395: Independent Studies 3 cr.
Prerequisite: Junior standing or consent of the department. May
be repeated for credit for a maximum of six semester hours. Special
research projects under the guidance of a member of the India Studies
faculty. Three hours of research.
