Finance teaches the techniques that managers use to make and evaluate all types of organizational decisions. In addition to careers in corporate finance, investments, and banking, this major allows students to prepare for a wide range of organizational activities. The Finance student is also able to prepare for a specialized job in the rapidly growing financial services industry: Insurance, Real Estate, Brokerage, Financial Planning, and Portfolio Management. To achieve these goals the student chooses one of two concentrations: Financial Analysis or Financial Services.

The Financial Analysis concentration allows students interested in utilizing their quantitative skills to prepare for careers such as Security Analyst, Comptroller/Treasurer, Research, or for graduate study. Required courses: Accounting 309 (Intermediate Accounting), Economics 301 (Intermediate Macroeconomics), Economics 302 (Intermediate Microeconomics), Economics 310 (Money and Banking), Finance 400 (Investment), Finance 410 (Advanced Business Finance) and Finance 440 (International Finance).

The Financial Services concentration is designed to introduce the student to some of the fastest growing economic sectors in the world: Insurance Sales and Underwriting, Commercial Real Estate and Financial Planning/Brokerage. Required courses: Economics 310 (Money and Banking), Finance 320 (Risk and Insurance), Finance 331 (Introduction to Investment), and Finance 340 (Principles of Real Estate). Students can then specialize by choosing one of two 3-course packages: [1] Insurance-Finance 322 (Property/Casualty), Finance 326 (Life and Health), and Marketing 330 (Personal Sales); or [2] Real Estate-Finance 442 (Appraisal), Finance 450 (Real Estate Investment), and Geography 420 (Geographic Information Systems).
