LSUS Pilots defeat Le Tourneau 7-2 (2/19/2004)
The LSUS Pilots (4-2) squared off against the Le Tourneau University Yellow Jackets (1-4) Thursday night at Pilot Field. It wasn’t until the fifth inning that the Pilots built a 5-2 lead and took control of the game from Yellow Jacket pitcher Demetri Young, who is an NCAA Division I transfer from Kansas State. The Pilots went on to win the game by a final score of 7-2.

Pilot pitcher Mitchel Person (1-0) took to the mound for his second start of the year. Person held the Yellow Jacket scoreless through the first three innings before giving up 2 in the fourth. Person left in the fourth only giving up 1 hit and one earned run while collecting 5 strikeouts. Pilot senior Levi Montoya (1-0) replaced Person in the fifth and threw five innings of shut out baseball while only allowing one hit. Montoya picks up his first win of the year in the Pilot victory. Offensively for the Pilots, Bryan Cooksey was 2-3 on the night and scored 3 of the Pilots 7 runs. Lead off hitter Dustin Bissonette was 2-4 with a run scored and an RBI. Thomas McMannis was 1-3 and drove in three Pilot runs.

The Pilots now look ahead to tomorrow nights match-up versus the Spring Hill College Badgers (2-3) which will be the opening game of the 2004 Gulf Coast Athletic Conference baseball season. Game time is scheduled to begin at 6:30pm. Games two and three of the series are scheduled to be played Saturday with the double-header beginning at 1:00pm at Pilot Field.
