Shreveport, La. – Three LSUS baseball players were named to the All-Louisiana Baseball Team as selected by the Louisiana Sports Writers Association. Pitcher Victor Hernandez and designated hitter Jeff Ledet were each 2nd-Team selections, while Andrew Brouillette picked up honorable mention honors.
Victor Hernandez, a senior from San Juan Del Rio, Mexico, led the Pilot pitching staff in wins, complete games, innings pitched and strikeouts. Hernandez recorded a career high 11 victories on the mound, while losing just one time on the season. Hernandez was also selected to the 2008 All-GCAC First Team.
Fifth-year senior Jeff Ledet paced the Pilots at the plate in 2008, hitting at a .427 clip with 7 home runs and 55 RBIs. The 2008 All-GCAC First-Teamer also etched his name into the Pilot record books with a .688 slugging percentage, good for third all-time on the school’s single-season list. Ledet was also named the GCAC Player of the Week during the season.
Freshman Andrew Brouillette made a big splash in his debut season with the Pilots, racking up All-Louisiana, All-Region and All-Conference honors. Brouillette led the Pilots in hits (82), total bases (128), walks (44) and on-base percentage (.526). Brouillette was named the GCAC Player of the Week for the second time on the season after a 9-for-9 performance at the plate of a doubleheader sweep of then No. 6 Mobile.
LSUS finished the 2008 season with a 47-16 overall record and their third-straight GCAC Tournament title. The Pilots season came to an end in the Region XIII championship game, falling to the eventual NAIA National Runner-up, Lee University. The Pilots .746 winning percentage set the school mark for the highest winning percentage in a single season.
