Pilots defeat Yellow Jackets 29-15 (2/22/2005)

 

Longview, TX---The LSUS Pilots (10-2) traveled to Longview, TX Tuesday afternoon to take on the LeTourneau University Yellow Jackets (3-1). The Pilots exploded for 27 hits in the 29-15 win over the Yellow Jackets.

The Pilots scored twice in the top of the first and followed with seven runs in the second which was capped of by a two run homerun of the bat of Chris Frye. The Pilots put up five more in the top of the third, and scored a solo run in the fourth when Brandon Magierowski doubled to left-center field scoring Frye to take a 15-0 lead.                                                                                                      

Dusty Maddox doubled to left-center field driving in Brian Cooksey to cap off a three run Pilot sixth, and put the Pilots up 18-1.

Adam Cox came on in relief of Brandon Ezernack and fell victim of some sloppy Pilot defense. The Yellow Jackets went on to score seven runs on just four hits, capitalizing on three Pilot errors, cutting the Pilot lead to18-8.

The Pilots went on to score five runs in the 7th inning, five more in the 8th, and one in the 9th to defeat the Yellow Jackets 29-15. Maddox led the Pilots offense going 4-8 with five RBI and three runs scored. Frye finished 3-6 with five runs scored and three RBI. Magierowski pitched in with his second four hit performance in consecutive games, going 4-5 with four runs scored and three RBI. Cooksey finished 3-5 with five RBI and three runs scored.

Frank Kowatz (1-0) completed 3.0 innings allowing one run (unearned), on two hits, one walk, and collected one strikeout, to earn his first win of the season.

D.J. Beck allowed six runs on five hits in 1.2 innings of work, to fall to 1-1 on the season.

The Pilots will be in action again Friday afternoon when they will take on the Spring Hill College Badgers in Gulf Coast Athletic Conference action. First pitch is scheduled for 2:00pm.
