Shreveport, LA-Expect Excellence…this is a slogan that Louisiana State University in Shreveport adopted to remind students that excellence is what they deserve from their institution, and LSUS continues to provide an excellent opportunity for students to achieve success.

The LSUS baseball program has grown to expect excellence both on and off the field from their student athletes. In 2003 the Pilots finished third in the NAIA College World Series, and played in the Gulf Coast Athletic Conference championship game in 2004.

“I believe the student athlete is our number one resource in the athletic program at LSUS. The strongest variable in our success at LSUS has been our ability to recruit student/athletes with a high degree of character,” commented Pilots head baseball coach Rocke Musgraves.

The 2004-2005 roster for the Pilots baseball team has accumulated an overall grade point average of 2.8 in the 2004 fall semester. This is the highest overall GPA since the induction of the baseball program in 1991. “If we could get everyone carrying their own load, we will reach our goal of having an overall team GPA of 3.0 or higher,” concluded a very pleased but not satisfied Musgraves.

Of the Pilots 33 student athletes on the 2005 roster, 15 earned a 3.0GPA or higher. Dustin Bissonnette finished with the highest GPA with a 3.80; Frank Kowatz 3.75; Patrick Thompson 3.70; Chris Frye 3.62; Jeremy Chabot 3.50; Riley Cook 3.40; Tyler Lewis 3.40; Louis Roberts 3.40; T.J. Thompson 3.25; Kevin Jewell 3.20; Chase Cox 3.15; Blake Pinkston 3.07; Tony Ferguson 3.00; Dusty Maddox 3.00; Brandon Magierowski 3.00.

The Pilots will open up their 2005 season February 1 when they will travel to Cedar Hills, TX to take on the Northwood University Knights in double-header action beginning at 1:00pm.
