Pilots open GCAC Tourney with 9-3 win over Wolfpack (5/5/2004)
The LSUS Pilots (35-23) opened the Gulf Coast Athletic Conference Tournament with a convincing 9-3 win over the Loyola University Wolfpack. Patrick Jolley opened up the scoring in the bottom of the second inning with a solo homerun over the right center field fence. The Pilots threatened to score again in the inning when T.J. Thompson hit a 2 out single to center but Jordy Bias was thrown out at the plate on the play to end the inning.

Loyola responded in the top of the third as Perrone singled to start the inning followed by a Veltri double and a two RBI single by Rodriguez. Pilots starting pitcher Gene Stevens (7-5) struck out Sudyka for the first out and then drew a double play ball from Kalina to end the Wolfpack rally.

In the bottom of the third the Pilots took the lead right back as they roughed up Wolfpack starter David Musch (2-9) for 4 runs which was capped off by a two out 3-run homerun by freshman Jordy Bias to give the Pilots a 6-2 lead.

Stevens managed to silent the Wolfpack the rest of the way only allowing 1 run in the 6th inning while collecting 9 strikeouts in the game. Loyola finished with 6 hits and committed one error.

The Pilots offense knocked out Musche in the bottom of the fourth inning who allowed 7 runs on 7 hits in 3.2 innings of work. Dustin Bissonnette finished 3-4 with two runs scored, however it was Bias who lead the Pilots offense with a 2-2, 4 RBI performance which included homeruns in the 3rd and 5th innings. Bias had to leave in the 7th inning after being hit in the forearm by a pitch from reliever Pickencher. Jeremie Chabot and TJ Thompson each pitched in with 2 hits a piece. The Pilots collected 11 hits and committed one error in the 9-3 victory.

LSUS will now face the winner of the Mobile University Rams versus the Belhaven College Blazers game tomorrow night at 7:00pm. The Pilots will be sending their left-handed freshman Kevin Jewel to the mound who will be looking for his 8th win of the season.
