Brouillette Named GCAC Player of the Year (4/30/2009)

Hattiesburg, Miss. - LSUS sophomore catcher Andrew Brouillette has been named the 2009 Gulf Coast Athletic Conference Player of the Year as announced earlier today by the league's office.

Brouillette finished the regular season with a .476 batting average, 20 home runs and 97 RBIs.  He led the entire country in RBIs during the regular season, while also posting team highs in batting average, home runs, hits (88), doubles (21), total bases (177), slugging percentage (.957) and on-base percentage (.577).

In addition to Brouillette, four other Pilots were selected to the All-Conference team.  Brent Lavallee was picked as the top first baseman in the league, while outfielders Quinton Shamsabady and Brandon Bravata grabbed two of the four outfield spots on the team.  Pitcher Justin Ennis rounded out the Pilots' selections, as he was the lone LSUS pitcher to be honored.

Lavallee, a senior from North Delta, B.C., hit .341 this season with 17 home runs and 71 RBIs.  He is currently second on the all-time LSUS home run list with 27 career home runs.

Shamsabady had a stellar senior season at the plate and in the field, anchoring an LSUS outfield that was the tops in the league.  He finished third on the team with a .357 batting average and second in runs scored (71) and doubles (18).  Shamsabady holds the LSUS career record for doubles with 48.

Bravata, who already made national news earlier this week with his NAIA record-breaking 35th hit-by-pitch, was named to the All-Conference team for the first time in his two-year career.  The sophomore led the nation in runs scored during the regular season with 77, while leading the team in walks (45) and stolen bases (22).  The Pilots' leadoff man hit .337 and had an on-base percentage of .551.

Ennis picked up this season right where he left off last year, as he had a dominating year on the mound in his sophomore season for the Pilots.  Ennis posted a 9-1 record and a team-best 3.16 ERA.  He also lead the team in strikeouts (65), innings pitched (91.1) and complete games (5).

The Pilots tied Belhaven with a league-high five selections on the All-GCAC team.
