Pilots Sail Past Spring Hill, Bravata Breaks National Record (4/24/2009)

Mobile, Ala. - LSUS starter Justin Ennis threw eight strong innings on the mound and junior Craig Barnes homered and drove in three runs to lead the No. 18 Pilots past Spring Hill College on Friday night.

Ennis struck out a season-high nine batters on his way to his eighth win of the season.  He allowed just two runs on four hits in the game.

The Pilots broke the contest open with a six-run second inning, and they would never look back as they sailed to an easy victory over the Badgers.

Kyle Lawrence and Barnes added two-run homers in the fifth and ninth innings respectively, as the Pilots finished the game with ten runs on ten hits.

Barnes paced LSUS with two hits and three RBIs, while Lawrence and Andrew Brouillette also drove in two runs apiece for the visitors.

Quinton Shamsabady recorded two hits and an RBI, as he and Barnes were the only two Pilots to register multiple hits.

Sophomore Brandon Bravata become the NAIA's all-time single-season leader in hit-by-pitches with his 35th HBP of the season in the ninth inning, becoming the first LSUS athlete to hold a national record in any category.

With the win and a William Carey loss on Friday night, the Pilots now sit one-half game behind the Crusaders in the Gulf Coast Athletic Conference standings with two games remaining.
